Berry Color: green-yellow
Best Use: Table
Origin: California
Harvest Season: August - September

Description

Princess is a white seedless table grape bred by David Ramming and Ronald Tarailo of the USDA Agricultural Research Service in Fresno, California, from Crimson Seedless crossed with a Fresno selection, and released in 1999 (it was first announced as Melissa). The large berries are sweet with a light Muscat flavour. It ripens at about the same time as Thompson Seedless, but unlike Thompson it forms big berries without growth-regulator sprays.

Characteristics

White seedless table grape; large, sweet berries with light Muscat flavour; ripens about with Thompson Seedless (September–October around Sacramento); cane-pruned

Growing Tips

At the UC Fair Oaks demonstration vineyard near Sacramento, Princess is cane pruned and ripens in September to October, giving large berries with a nice sweet flavour. Because it sizes its berries naturally, home growers do not need gibberellin. Note that sales of this variety are restricted outside the United States, so it may be hard to obtain legitimately in Europe.
