Description
Cotton Candy is the trade name of the grape 'IFG Seven', bred by David Cain of International Fruit Genetics in California. It comes from a 2003 cross between an interspecific University of Arkansas selection and the white seedless variety Princess. Its large, firm, oval green seedless berries have an unusual sweet flavour, likened to toffee or cotton candy, with a hint of the wild riverbank grape (Vitis riparia).
Characteristics
White (yellow-green) seedless table grape; large, firm, oval berries; distinctive toffee/'cotton candy' flavour; interspecific hybrid; productive; ripens mid to late August in California
Growing Tips
The vine is productive and can be spur-pruned short. Berry colour ranges from green to yellow-green depending on sun exposure and ripeness, so taste rather than colour is the best guide to picking. The variety is patented and licensed, so vines are generally not available to home growers.
