Description

Sugraone is the variety name of the green grape sold under the Superior Seedless brand. It was bred in California by John Garabedian at Superior Farming, from Cardinal crossed with a seedless parent, and patented in 1972. The large, oval, seedless berries are firm and crisp with a light muscat note, and the bunches hold their berries well. It ripens early, about a week or ten days before Thompson Seedless.

Characteristics

White (green-yellow) seedless table grape; large oval to obovoid berries; firm, crisp flesh; slight muscat flavour; medium to large bunches; berries do not shatter; large, vigorous, productive vine; early, 7–10 days before Thompson Seedless

Growing Tips

The patent describes a large, vigorous and productive vine whose berries cling firmly to the bunch. It ripens early, from early July in California's San Joaquin Valley. Sugraone is a licensed variety, and fruit may carry the Superior Seedless name only if it meets Sun World's quality rules, such as at least 15.5 percent soluble solids.
