Origin: Russia
Harvest Season: August

Description

Rusbol is a white seedless grape bred jointly by Russia's Potapenko institute in Novocherkassk and the viticulture institute in Pleven, Bulgaria, from Seyve-Villard 12-375 × Sverkhrannii Bessemyannyi. It ripens early, in 120 to 125 days. Bunches usually weigh about 320 g, sometimes 400 to 600 g. The medium, oval, amber-white berries contain only soft seed traces and suit fresh eating and drying.

Characteristics

White (amber) seedless table and drying grape; medium oval berries about 18 × 16 mm with soft seed traces; thin but firm skin; bunches of 320 g, up to 400–600 g; hermaphrodite flowers; early, 120–125 days; extremely fruitful, prone to overcropping; hardy to −25/−26 °C; resistant to downy mildew, powdery mildew and grey rot

Growing Tips

Rusbol overcrops easily. Remove surplus inflorescences and weak shoots, thinning shoots first when they reach 7 to 10 cm. Because the basal buds are fruitful, short pruning to two or three buds works. The institute rates it hardy to −25/−26 °C and resistant to downy and powdery mildew and grey rot, so it can be grown uncovered.
