Description
On this page Kishmish means the classic white seedless grape of Central Asia, Ak Kishmish, which is the same variety as Sultanina, sold in America as Thompson Seedless. It is the most widely planted light-skinned grape in the world. Large, winged bunches carry medium-sized seedless berries with crunchy, low-acid flesh and a simple, pleasant taste, and it is also the world's main raisin grape.
Characteristics
White (green-yellow) seedless grape; medium berries with moderately thick skin; crunchy, low-acid flesh; large, winged, moderately compact bunches; extremely vigorous; mid-season ripening; used for table grapes, raisins and wine
Growing Tips
This extremely vigorous vine must be trellised and cane-pruned; UC advisers leave four to six canes. It forms enough flower clusters only with plenty of light and warmth, so in cool regions it can be nearly barren. French trials rate it very sensitive to downy and powdery mildew, anthracnose, grey rot and phomopsis, so plan regular protection.
