Description

Ruby Seedless is a red seedless table grape bred by Harold Olmo at the University of California, Davis, from a cross of Emperor with an Italian Pirovano selection, and released in 1968. Its medium-sized, deep red to purple berries are sweet, and in California it is a mid- to late-season variety, ripening from mid to late August. Besides fresh eating, it also makes good raisins.

Characteristics

Red seedless table grape; medium berries, red to purple; sweet; ripens mid–late August in California; good for raisins

Growing Tips

UC advisers list Ruby Seedless as spur or cane pruned, ripening in mid to late August, but warn that it is extremely susceptible to powdery mildew and bunch rot. Start mildew protection early in the season, open up the leaves around the clusters, and avoid overhead watering.
