Description
Krasa Severa ('Beauty of the North') is a very early, cold-hardy table grape from the Central Genetic Laboratory in Michurinsk, Russia, bred by I. M. Filippenko and L. T. Shtin from a 1960 cross of Zarya Severa and Taifi Rozovyi. Its loose bunches of about 250 g carry large, round berries with white skin and a pink blush, juicy flesh and a simple taste with a slight astringency.
Characteristics
White table grape with a pink blush; large round to oval-round berries; thin but tough skin; 2–4 small seeds; loose conical or branched bunches of about 250 g; very early; high yields; winter-hardy to about −26 °C; medium resistance to diseases and pests
Growing Tips
This is a grape for short, cold seasons. The register rates its winter hardiness as high, to about −26 °C, and its ripening as very early, and it was approved for Russia's Central Black Earth region. Resistance to diseases and pests is only medium, though, so watch for mildew in wet summers and spray when needed.
