Description

Talisman is a large-fruited white table grape bred at the Potapenko institute in Novocherkassk, Russia, from Frumoasă Albă × Vostorg. It has been in the Russian state register since 2016. Bunches average 450 to 475 g and can reach about a kilogram. The yellow-green, elliptical berries weigh 12 to 16 g and have meaty, juicy flesh, one or two seeds and a simple, neutral taste.

Characteristics

White (yellow-green) table grape; very large elliptical berries of 12–16 g; 1–2 seeds; meaty, juicy flesh; simple, neutral taste; functionally female flowers; bunches of 450–475 g, sometimes 800–1,100 g; very vigorous; early to early-mid season; winter-hardy to around −25 °C; good downy mildew resistance; susceptible to powdery mildew

Growing Tips

Talisman's flowers are functionally female, so plant a hermaphrodite variety that flowers at the same time nearby. The vine is very vigorous and tends to overcrop, so thin inflorescences and bunches carefully. The register recommends a two-arm cordon with fruiting canes pruned to six to eight buds. It resists downy mildew well but needs protection against powdery mildew.
