Dzina grape cluster
Berry Color: green-yellow
Best Use: Fresh eating
Origin: Russia
Harvest Season: early August

Description

Dzina (Dzhina in Russian) is a white table grape bred by Sergei Gusev, an amateur breeder from Dubovka in southern Russia, from Super-Extra × Blagovest. It ripens very early, in the first part of August in the south. The large, conical bunches often have a wing, and the very large, oval berries have a thin skin and meaty, juicy, crunchy flesh with a strong muscat flavour.

Characteristics

White table grape; very early ripening (early August in the south); large conical bunches, often with a wing, about 800 to 1,200 g; very large oval berries of about 13 to 18 g; thin skin; meaty, juicy, crunchy flesh; strong muscat flavour; vigorous; high yields; functionally female flowers that set well; moderate disease resistance

Growing Tips

Dzina has functionally female flowers. They usually set well, but a bisexual variety flowering at the same time nearby makes pollination more reliable. Growers recommend large training forms with plenty of old wood and long pruning for the biggest bunches. Disease resistance is only moderate, so plan regular protection, and cover the vine in winter where frosts are hard.
