Description
Murometz (registered as Muromets) is a very early black table grape from the Michurin research centre in Michurinsk, Russia, bred by I. M. Filippenko and L. T. Shtin from a 1962 cross of Severnyi × Pobeda and listed in the Russian state register since 1988. Conical bunches of about 400 g carry oblong 4–5 g berries, dark violet to almost black under a heavy bloom, with one to four seeds and often none.
Characteristics
Black (dark violet) table grape; very early; oblong-oval 4–5 g berries with heavy bloom and thin skin; 1–4 seeds, seedless berries common; conical bunches of about 400 g; high yields; hardy to about −25 °C; relatively resistant to downy mildew
Growing Tips
The register rates Murometz above average for winter hardiness, to about −25 °C, and in its approved regions it is grown uncovered while accepting a 10 to 20 percent risk of frost damage. Where winters are harsher, protect the canes. It is relatively resistant to downy mildew, and its very early ripening suits short summers.
