Description

Einset Seedless is a winter-hardy red seedless grape from Cornell University's programme in Geneva, New York. It was bred by George Remaily from Fredonia × Canner Seedless, crossed in 1963 and released in 1985. Its medium bunches of bright red, oval berries have an unusual strawberry-like flavour. The skin is slightly tough and clings to the tender flesh. It ripens very early and keeps well, in New York until the end of November.

Characteristics

Red seedless table grape; small to medium oval berries; strawberry-like flavour; slightly tough adherent skin; occasional noticeable seed remnant; very early ripening; winter-hardy; good storage; resistant to grey rot

Growing Tips

Einset is vigorous and fairly hardy, but it is susceptible to powdery and downy mildew, so plan regular sprays from early in the season. Its bunches are small to medium and the berries small. Girdling the canes or a gibberellin treatment improves bunch fill and berry size if you want showier fruit. It resists grey rot well and tolerates phylloxera fairly well.
