Description
Canadice is a red seedless table grape from Cornell University's breeding programme in Geneva, New York. It was crossed in 1954 from Bath × Himrod and released in 1977. The small red berries come in medium, tight bunches. Their flavour and looks are often compared with the American grape Delaware. It is hardier in winter than most seedless grapes.
Characteristics
Red seedless table grape; small berries (about 1.6 g); medium, very compact bunches; Delaware-like American flavour; very productive; more winter-hardy than most seedless grapes
Growing Tips
Canadice can be extremely productive on a cordon with careful management, but its very tight bunches rot easily in wet years. Thin the leaves around the fruit and keep up with bunch-rot sprays as the berries ripen. Some sites have seen trunk injury in hard winters, so choose a well-drained spot that isn't a frost pocket.
