Description
Fantasy Seedless is a mid-season black seedless table grape bred by David Ramming and Ronald Tarailo at the USDA's Fresno breeding unit in California. Its thin-skinned, firm berries are naturally large, 8 g or more, and taste excellent when fully ripe. They reach that size without the gibberellin sprays or girdling most seedless grapes need.
Characteristics
Black seedless table grape; large berries (8 g or more); thin skin; firm flesh; mid-season ripening; excessive vigour; low bud fruitfulness; prone to berry cracking and bunch rot
Growing Tips
Fantasy is very vigorous, so plant it on a moderate-vigour site, or on a low-vigour rootstock, and avoid heavy nitrogen and watering. Cane pruning is essential for a decent crop, because the basal buds are not very fruitful. Its biggest weakness is cracking of ripening berries followed by bunch rot. Remove leaves around the bunches and pick as soon as the fruit is ripe.
